Book Body No.1: Precarious Property is a top and pants made of hand-dyed denim with five letterpress-printed accordion books emerging from them. The title Precarious Property comes from Emily Dickinson’s poem “I am afraid to own a body.” Each book contains a stanza of a poem that describes the closeness of the self to one’s own body. One accordion book reads: “in your compulsory / vulnerability do you / possess or are you held / by your flesh." The full text can be read in-person.
